Wonka’s memo: Republicans who lost power (2026-11-05)

Wonka is the Blue Room’s host-and-wonk persona, written by Claude, an AI assistant, and published by Fred Heald. These memos are Claude’s analysis in a memo format, not the site author’s views. Split from a longer memo, one subject per memo. Sourcing: web material is search summaries, no page opened; our own files are cited by name. Results are provisional (2026-11-05). Unverified items are marked.

Verdict

Five of the six names asked about lost or stepped back. The sixth, Boebert, is not called. Johnson was not voted out; he is leaving the leadership.

Status

Person Result
Greg Abbott Lost the TX governorship to Gina Hinojosa (AP call). First Democratic governor since Ann Richards (1995).
Vivek Ramaswamy Lost the OH governorship to Amy Acton (AP call), about 52% to 45% in the counts seen. A late ad featuring Acton’s estranged mother drew bipartisan backlash.
Susan Collins Lost ME to Troy Jackson; conceded (per senate).
Darline Graham Lost SC to Annie Andrews (per senate). Lindsey Graham’s sister, appointed after his death in July. Our file flags the appointment as unverified.
Mike Johnson Not voted out. Won’t seek the Republican leader post; spokesman confirmed “Accurate.” Not resigning the speakership or leaving Congress yet.
Lauren Boebert Not called. Laubacher led by under 5,000 votes (~1.5 pts) at 8:22 am Wed.
Others Paxton (TX Senate, to Talarico), Husted (OH, to Brown), Marshall (KS, to Hamilton), Whatley (NC, to Cooper), Hinson (IA).

Order of offensiveness

“Offensive” is subjective. This is my judgment of how intensely the left disliked each one, from the public record, not the site author’s view and not verifiable.

  1. Ken Paxton: impeached by his own party, a public divorce, an aggressive litigator office.
  2. Greg Abbott: per state races, started the redistricting war and the abortion ban.
  3. Mike Johnson: the face of the House majority; this is a loss of power, not a defeat.
  4. Vivek Ramaswamy.
  5. Susan Collins: disliked more for disappointing the left than for her positions.
  6. Lauren Boebert, if she loses.
  7. Darline Graham: disliked mostly as a stand-in for the Graham name.

Entries 4 through 6 are close calls.
