One Saturday, Papa took Dylan to Mission Bay Park and then down the coast to Bird Rock. Bird Rock is a stretch of the La Jolla shoreline where the waves have cut shelves into the rock, and at low tide the tide pools are left behind — small trapped pools with crabs and anemones and all sorts of small creatures living in them. You walk carefully and look close. Dylan looked at everything.
