A family theory, maintained for years.

My sister Amy spent months in Peru and the South American rainforest. Multiple trips, extended stays, the kind of commitment to a place that most people don’t make.

We used to joke she was in the CIA and the “adventures” were just a cover story for black ops wet work.

The actual explanation is more interesting in some ways: she genuinely loves the rainforest and the work happening there. But the CIA theory has the advantage of being impossible to disprove. She’s never fully denied it.
