Early 1970s. Heber Beach, Ontario, Canada.

At Heber Beach β€” a sand dune lake beach in Ontario, Canada β€” I was buried to the neck in beach sand. I was a small kid, and sand dunes look like great fun. Apparently I got into a collapsed situation that left only my feet sticking out.

My Dad and Dick Proudfit β€” an old family friend from El Centro β€” were nearby. They pulled me out by my ankles.

If they hadn’t been there, I would have died.

It left no particular impression on my theology.
