Things that annoy me about the EEE:

  • Short battery life when awake or asleep
  • Doesn’t truly sleep
  • Shutdown doesn’t cleanly exit applications
  • No automatic time sync

When I actually get around to using it, this thing is damned handy, and faster or bigger screen wouldn’t make much difference — though OSX or reliable sleep certainly would. Better battery life as well.

I think this is an awfully cool computer for techheads, but I don’t think I’d recommend it to anyone who wouldn’t know the difference — not quite yet, at least. The number of kinks to be worked out is surprisingly small — battery, wireless — but still would be frustrating to a newbie.

I’m not really convinced by OSX on here; it’s pretty flaky. iWork doesn’t want to install without the latest OSX; Office crashed the CD. Gimp is here — all these aren’t bad; I can’t seem to find an HP RPN emulator.

In any case, I’m thinking I should not have gotten rid of the iBooks — sure, it’s nice to have the cash but I could have used them for photo and movie projects. Shrug.
