Some friends of mine were moving to Chicago, so they were running through their list of “things to do before we leave.” I got to join them for one of the items on the list.
We went noonish on a weekday. The place was fairly empty. They brought chips, the spicy salsa, and a cup of salsa fresca. With jalapeños, the fresca was too much for my friend — I imagine Chicago will suit him — but it was perfect for me. When we ran out of chips, I ate the fresca with a spoon.
I had the chile relleno plate. The chile was perfect. I mixed the rice and beans with some of the spicy salsa, and they were great too. My friends had tortilla soup minus the tortillas (diets) and avocados and carne asada with extra avocados — at least someone got them.
This place is not far from my house. I keep meaning to go back but it gets too crowded in the evenings. Maybe the best time to go is when your friends are moving away and you need a sendoff meal.
