Apple announced new Powerbooks yesterday. The 12" and 17" models — the first 17" laptop from anyone.
What’s interesting about the 12" model is that it starts at $1,799 — which means it’s not that much more than the iBook, at $1,099. For $700 more, you get a faster processor (867MHz vs. 700MHz), a slightly bigger screen (12.1" vs. 12"), a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive vs. CD-ROM only, Firewire 800 and a modem/gigabit ethernet. And it’s thinner. And of course, it’s a Powerbook — the premium laptop from Apple. I’d get the 12" Powerbook.
The 17" model — it’s a dream machine. $3,299 for a 17" screen, 1GHz processor, airport extreme, combo drive, bluetooth, backlit keyboard. Unfortunately I can’t justify that one. But ooooh.
