The day after I got home from Burning Man.

I came home from Burning Man with playa lung and a week of dust to clean. The tortoise had different plans.

Sabio escaped during my arrival. I noticed he was gone and started the search. He was eventually found a mile away on Gopher Canyon Road — a remarkable journey for a tortoise, through fences, cactus, and open fields. How he navigated the terrain is unclear. Where he was going is also unclear. He did not explain himself when retrieved.

A tracker will be reinstalled.

There’s something about coming home from the desert exhausted and immediately having to conduct a one-mile radius search for your tortoise.

Sabio has lived in the backyard for years. He seems content. He occasionally escapes. He apparently finds the world more interesting than the backyard, which is a sentiment I understand completely.
