Two different trips that these photos get confused for each other: the move from Denver to San Francisco, and a later run from SF toward Texas with Susanne Meyer.

The top photo β€” leaving SF for Texas. Susanne Meyer and me in front of the Land Rover, blue tarp still strapped on, SF Victorians behind us. We were about to leave to take Sue to Houston, where she was going to stay with a roommate. The roommate fight happened before we arrived, the weather was awful, and we turned around and came home. I’m not a fan of flappy blue tarps.

The bottom photo β€” leaving Denver for San Francisco. The 1990 move, west across Highway 50, the loneliest road in America. Anubis was somewhere in the middle. (Land Rover and U-Haul, Denver, moving day.)
