~1988–1993

I got the Trooper because my parents thought the Jeep was unsafe. They were probably right. I had it after college, when I lived in Upland, and I think I still had it when I got the 88" Rover β€” for a while I owned both, which should tell you something about my decision-making.

It was a two-door β€” I’d forgotten that, until I looked at the pictures. Had a little four-cylinder engine that kept it pretty slow. I drove it all over LA and took it offroad a few times. There weren’t any great adventures.

All in all these were underappreciated vehicles β€” similar to the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series utility trucks you can’t get in the US. I swapped the big BFG tires from the Jeep onto it when I replaced the Jeep, then promptly totalled the Jeep on the smaller slick tires that came with the Trooper. I’m blaming the tires.

I sold the Trooper when I got the Amigo.
