2006–2013

The D2 had 35,870 miles when I bought it from a Land Rover dealer in Mission Viejo. I drove it 92,000 more. The Borrego Edition was a limited regional variant β€” upgraded trim, not mechanically different.

Discovery 2s have a reputation for catastrophic failure. Mine didn’t have one. The maintenance was expensive and steady β€” California Autohaus, a specialist shop staffed by ex-dealer technicians β€” but nothing fell off in a dramatic way. For a Land Rover, this counts as beating the odds.

Buying from a brand dealer meant maintenance records. Knowing the history made the ownership predictable, which is more than you can say for most used vehicles and essentially all Land Rovers.

I still say β€œnever again.” The D2 was the best-case outcome of a bad policy. I don’t want to find out what the next Discovery would cost me.
