El Centro. First time driving a car.

The first day I drove the first car I ever drove, I transported an open container of Budweiser — a tapped keg — to a handball tournament.

The tournament was called the “First Annual Helen Keller Invitational.” The power went out.

I’m not going to explain the Helen Keller reference, because the tournament’s name was the joke and the tournament’s name is self-explanatory. The power went out because El Centro is in a desert and desert power infrastructure in the 1970s and 80s was what it was.
