Caliente Tropics Resort, Palm Springs — a 1960s tiki-themed motor hotel. Rated ★★★★★
How could I not love a tiki-themed motel with an actual tiki bar next to the large warm pool with tropical music and moai? It feels like a mini vacation to Hawaii. This is my go-to Palm Springs hotel. Rates are low (relative to other nearby places); the rooms are old but clean and smell good. The “Suite” rooms have a couch and sitting area, which is nice for an extended stay. It’s off the PS strip — so you may have to drive to shop or dine. I haven’t tried the restaurant — hours have been inconvenient for me — but the bar is great (could use a bit more food variety. Desserts?). There are plenty of other nearby places to eat as well.
