She was born in San Francisco and grew up on the Peninsula, in San Mateo. She became a flight attendant — which, as Fred tells it, is how she met Alan, one of Gramp and Gram's sons and Phil's brother. They married in San Francisco in 1968 and raised a daughter, Stephanie, there before settling in Walnut Creek. She is the Bay Area branch of the family, a regular in the big Heald gatherings of the 1980s and 90s.
