I visited the Creekside spa at Double Eagle Resort on the way back from Burning Man. I was dusty and dirty and hadn’t showered in a week, and my back was achey from too many days sleeping on the ground and too many hours in the car.
Even without the massage, it would have been worth the trip. I took a shower, soaked in the hot tub, steamed in the steam room, took another shower, washed and shaved, drank a bunch of water, did the steam room again. Took my time to soak away the playa dust.
The massage was deep tissue. The therapist wasn’t kidding — really worked me, which was exactly right, though I was still feeling it a few days later.
The robe was too small, and I had to go back to the front counter for towels because for some reason they weren’t in the locker room. Minor inconveniences. When you’re riding a week’s worth of desert out of your body, you’re not in a position to complain about towels.
I’d planned this stop as part of the drive back from Burning Man. Lone Pine to Double Eagle is a logical first overnight, and the spa is a much better use of that time than a Motel 6 in Ridgecrest.
