Joey’s Smokin’ BBQ / Pick Up Stix, Carlsbad.

Got two more iPods this weekend, one of which (the new one) I really like, even though I mangled the case taking it apart and the hard drive is dead. Those hard drives are pretty annoying — I guess if I kept it for myself I’d replace it with a memory card, but those are still pretty expensive at $85/32GB.

What I may do is post an ad on CL: broken iPods wanted, working iPods available! I don’t think I’d make much money at it, if any, but now that I know how to do it it seems like it’d be kind of fun to try to get it going. I could probably even do that for a while — buying, fixing, and selling commodity Apple products. There’s probably a place somewhere that does this, in fact I know there are several around. Mobile iPod and MacBook repair? Weekends only — I come to you!

Now I own three MacBooks (2.0, 2.16, 2.4) and five iPod Classics (2 1/2 of them work!).

Buy on CL, sell on eBay seems to be a pretty good business plan. I’m starting out about $100 in the hole because of fixing Mom’s for free and buying those two piece-of-crap old ones — may still be able to pull that one out. It’s exciting to sell stuff on eBay, because as the sale gets closer the price keeps bumping up and up.
