Webb classmate and wrestling teammate, dance instructor, late-life aviator.

One of the nicest guys I know. We wrestled together at Webb; that’s what stuck with me, more than the football we also both played.

He moved to Chicago and got deep into the neighborhood bar and swing-dance scene — taught lessons in local pubs near Lincoln Park. I visited on a work trip in the early '90s and stayed with Mike Macgaffey a block away. We went barhopping, and every place we walked into treated him like Norm from Cheers — “Jeff!”

He reconnected with Mouse Chapman in Phoenix as Mouse’s health declined, and helped organize the reunion boat outing in June 2002 — he’s the one at the wheel in the cap.

A few years back he went after a dream the Air Force and three airlines had turned him down for back in the '80s: he’s a Southwest Airlines flight attendant working toward his pilot’s license, still teaching dance on the side, and building an app to find public pools around Chicago.
