Hawaiian fusion for a family birthday. Fred gets kalbi ribs with a fried egg. Rated ★★★★☆

Went here for my step-father-in-law’s birthday. The waiter was not flamboyant enough for a restaurant this nice (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but he was knowledgeable and friendly and knew how to say things in Hawaiian — mahalo! The mai-tai was nice, pretty light on the booze but not what I was there for anyhow. Appetizer sushi was yum. My crab and avocado salad was great even though it didn’t have a lot of crab or avocado.

I had beef ribs kalbi roca style, which meant a fried egg on top with risotto and some sort of thick sauce. Loved it, and not just for the unintentional Simpsons reference. They had the “Classic Trio” fish sampler (polished the plate), salmon (excellent, though the side polenta was too creamy), and roast pork falling off the bone wow. The kitchen is right out in the open, so this would be a fine place to go by yourself to sit at the food bar and watch the chefs. Nice flickering gas torches outside. I didn’t have to pay the bill, but it was somewhere between not cheap and spendy.
