Irish Pubs and Indian Food — Two recurring venues, traceable to the several Doofs who did post-college time in London. The Irish pub is a serious institution among them. They were once at a pub in Los Angeles when someone ordered a round of Guinness for the whole bar. They enjoyed it, had another, and then the person ordered another round. “Who’s that guy ordering rounds?” “Oh, that’s the Irish Consulate.” The correct response to a round from the Irish Consulate is a second round. This was not questioned.
The Guinness theory — Todd Mansbridge holds that the first pint of a night tastes like a Guinness; the second really tastes like a Guinness; the third REALLY tastes like a Guinness. The fourth and subsequent all taste like root beer floats.
Dooffest — A semi-regular gathering. Every few years, whoever can make it goes somewhere together. It doesn’t happen often enough.
Tuesday Night Zoom — Started during COVID and didn’t stop. Fred doesn’t always make it. He tries.
A-D-A-M — Every time someone states the obvious, explains the joke, or takes a sexual punchline further than anyone needed, they receive a letter of Adam Goldstein’s name. Collect all four in one evening and you have to sleep with Adam. The rules are clear and the punishment proportionate.
The Signal Thread — Currently: furries and meat suits interwoven with political lamentations. This is a normal Tuesday.
