b. December 13, 1965, Carlsbad, CA.

Software developer and process analyst. Nearly 50 years of coding across more languages than I can list without sounding like I’m padding a resume. Black Rock Ranger at Burning Man — “we’re not cops, we’re not your mom.” Father of Dylan. Based in Vista, North County San Diego.

Grew up in El Centro, the son of Phil and Elise, grandson of Gramp the surgeon and pilot. Went to Webb School, then Pomona College, class of 1988. Moved to Denver after graduation, then San Francisco, then Los Angeles, then San Diego, which is where I stopped.

I own too many old vehicles, or I used to. I describe myself as more of a process analyst than a coder, which is true but also sounds like the kind of thing a coder says when they’ve been doing it long enough to know what they’re actually good at.

I’ve been going to Burning Man since 1997. I have a pilot’s certificate. I’ve owned six Land Rovers. I’ve never successfully owned a Land Rover Discovery without regretting it.

This is the autobiography project — the attempt to turn 50 years of journals, letters, photos, and accumulated stories into something that makes sense as a life. I’m writing it. The writing is part of the point.
