Joey’s Smokin’ BBQ, Vista, California. Rated ★★★★☆
Look, I notice the other reviewers are trying to compare this place to some remote “authentic” barbecue joint. Sure, it would be nice to have Everett and Jones down the street, or the Spring Street Smokehouse, or the midwest classics. But we’re in the San Diego suburbs, this place is next to the local supermarket, and you take what you can get.
Joey’s is one of several nearby restaurants from the same family — Tomaso’s, Tuscany, Tommy V’s, Zibibbo. Haven’t tried the others yet. But it’s great to support the locals.
I like their beef ribs. Usually I order them, have a Fat Tire while I wait, then take them home and douse them with some sweet sauce and try not to get barbecue all over the couch.
