Webb classmate; science fiction author.
Fred wasn’t close to Scalzi at Webb — they found each other later, through CK Barrus. Fred was on Scalzi’s pre-announcement list when Old Man’s War sold to Tor Books in January 2003, after editor Patrick Nielsen Hayden found it serialized on his blog, “whatever.scalzi.com.” Fred had read it cover to cover.
Fred: “I’m friends with Scalzi — went to high school with him.” Technically true; warm, but not close.
