Fred is on a work trip to New Orleans and Pittsburgh during the week of the Bush-Gore election that wouldn’t end.

It’s been a long and eventful week. This is the week of the presidential election that would not end. And I’ve been spending it in New Orleans and (mostly) Pittsburgh. Tired of checking CNN to see more mixed news — Bush is still ahead but Gore will be disputing the results; in any case the election will be nondecisive for a long time, and even after it’s settled will be no great power for the winner. Truly the results an anarchist would love.

The table next to me is filled with nuns, which didn’t strike me as all that strange until I realised — it’s Friday. And this is a steak place. Am curious if they’re all having the lobster, which although it’s not kosher must be okay.
