Stowaway. Rated ★★★★★

As I walked through the mostly empty resto-mall I wasn’t sure about this place. Some food kiosks, some yogurt vendors, some trendy clothing stores. But there’s the curtain that says “Tiki Bar”, and behind it…well, maybe not paradise but whatever it is I like it! The menu is on your phone — damn Covid — and it’s a little hard to figure out — damn webpages — but it’s complete with lots of drinks and lots of grub. I had the Hurricane Ash and Three Dots and a Dash, and dry rub spiced chicken wings. Everything was fresh and great! I’m learning to mix my own tiki drinks, so I’m very particular about the ingredients and the taste, and the drinks were spot on. The two I had were sort of similar, next time I’ll try something a little different. They were strong though — use caution with more than one! It’s a small place, maybe ten spots at the bar, and some table seating inside, and more “outside”. If you’re hardcore like me you want to sit inside and enjoy the atmosphere. On a Saturday afternoon it was crowded, but as a single there was a wall table to squeeze into. The staff is, if anything, too attentive — but I was in a high traffic area, so they asked me every time if I was doing okay or needed anything. They’re all young and I wonder if they know the rich history of tiki that they’re perpetuating. The ladies next to me were having a giant scorpion bowl and speaking Chinese and laughing a lot. The bar seemed to have some serious tiki people, judging only by their clothes. Great drinks, fun place in an unexpected location. I’d like to come back and try several other concoctions!
