Telenomics is being absorbed by Cybertel, and Fred is being asked to sign over his company stock for essentially nothing.

Well, the first shoe has dropped. Cybertel does not plan to let me keep my stock; either I have to give it back and get from Telenomics whatever they are willing or able to pay; or I can keep it and Mangiarelli will try to nullify the stock. Either way I don’t come out doing very well.

Today was an interesting day. I still don’t know for sure how it turned out. If nothing else it’s an interesting experiment in how much Cybertel values its employees — in the case of RM, not much.
He’s the sort that would order you up a hill surrounded by snipers, just to see what was up there; and if you turned around and said “but Sarge, there’s snipers on that hill” would shoot you dead for mutiny.
“You may have noticed that threats don’t motivate me.” — line I’m waiting to use.

Printed bills all day at Cybertel. Getting a cold. Those fuckers have no idea how much they’re going to miss me, but I’m pretty sure they’re going to have RP try to run bills next month.

Met with Rick Schmidt and Dick Mangiarelli this afternoon, and actually walked away with a compromise I can live with: half my stock, not sellable for a year if I stay with them; theirs if I quit, mine if they fire me. Or mine to sell if it goes above $10.
The biggest problem with the contract was that I was actually an officer in Telenomics, making me responsible for Rick’s decisions. I should not have agreed to be an officer unless I understood completely what that entailed.
May, June, July — so my initial review is at the end of July, beginning of August — and if I decide to leave then I can have a nice long vacation at Burning Man.
