Fred is up in Silicon Valley for sales demos. Several get cancelled. He buys his first iBook.

This is a first journal with the iBook. Which if I continue to use it as planned this might be what I use a lot.
I’m in San Jose for sales demos — two of which were cancelled today. Sucks to be us, I suppose.
After extended consideration, I ended up with this iBook. Mainly to save money but also because it’s a lot classier machine than the Powerbook; the PB was nice but overpriced and just didn’t feel that great to me.
It occurred to me that the smaller, and I suppose cheaper, a machine is, the more it needs external connectivity. This one doesn’t have an external monitor port — tho it does have a funky external TV port. But there is a firewire port, and an ethernet port, and an internal modem. So it really is a damned good machine. And the screen is a little small at 800x600 but that’s the same size I’ve been used to on the 2400. And it will run OSX which was my primary priority.
I did spring $250 on 128MB of memory — perhaps if I read this again someday (which is seeming quite unlikely based on my record of reading old journals) — may sound ridiculous.

It’s great to meet with Ray and Dominique; met their new kid and chatted for a while; would like to see them sometime more relaxed. And I’m getting together with Rebecca tomorrow night, the gang the next day, and Alan and Carol on Sunday morning, then off to Reno. Constant.
I’m getting to like this iBook more the more I use it.

The Douglas County clean-up went nearly as well as could be expected; moved to a new better faster server with Win2k and remote access; did a little training which appears to be completely lost. I really really need to write some good manuals.
Meeting with Rick Baruther tomorrow morning, then cruise back to San Jose for the demo with Rick in the afternoon; then finally I get to go home.
Roast beast last night; burger tonight. Meat mete meet. Still think within my lifetime artificial foods will hit restaurants, not necessarily “nice” places but at least the fast food joints and dives like this.
