Ten Thousand Waves spa, Santa Fe, New Mexico. For a wedding.

We were in Santa Fe for a wedding. We’d driven past Ten Thousand Waves before without stopping, so this time we booked in advance.

Beautiful grounds β€” it feels like you’re in a Japanese mountain village, set up against the hill north of Santa Fe. We got an outdoor tub, private, with a cold dunk pool and a sauna β€” private enough for her and outdoorsy enough for me. The tub was actually large enough to sit twenty people; we were two of us in it. The water was clean. The view was mountain. Next time: a massage, maybe one of the cabins.

I like the fact that in the mountains outside Santa Fe you can get into a Japanese bath and the temperature outside is doing mountain things and the sky is doing New Mexico things and all of it is simultaneously exactly what it is and completely incongruous. Santa Fe is like that. The city tolerates a certain amount of incongruity.

When I get fabulously wealthy I promise to build one of these near San Diego.

I have not gotten fabulously wealthy. The promise stands.
