Fred is daydreaming about driving the Pinzgauer all the way from San Diego to a Land Rover gathering in Colorado, then on to Burning Man.

Would be weird to drive that all the way across the desert out to Colorado, then up to Burning Man. Fuck, I would like to take an entire month of vacation while I’m at it, that would be a real trip. Even driving the Rover and towing the Pinz, but with the Pinz alone it would be great. Maybe I need to find a small military trailer for parts and gear so I can sleep in the back. Damn that would be great, just wander around the west for a while at 50 miles per hour. If I’ve got a portable computer and camera, that’s really all the tech I need.

Leave the first part of August; drive to wherever it is in Colorado they’re having the Treffen. That’s about a week there, then between one and two weeks to get to Black Rock. Could even go up into northern California if I wanted to. Then back, maybe spend a week and a half in the desert.

It would be great to have a mondo big tent to use — but sorta silly to drag it with me if I weren’t going to be using it. Food, water, I think I’m fine on those, as well as shelter and bedding. Would need to work some decent shower system. Laundry — that’s not a big problem — I guess that’s about it other than having to take a dump in the wilderness for a month.

Of course — I could also do the Treffen, then drop the Pinz in a storage place in Reno and fly back; then fly up a week before BM. That would be more practical and have me gone less, but I’d have to find someplace relatively decent to store it.

Still need to take it up to Hemet for service sometime. Try to get Kip to take me up there some Saturday or something.

The Pinz did make it to Burning Man that year. The month-long plan did not happen.
