I’m glad I managed to write to Gramp. One of these evenings I should set up the scanner so I can just start going through pictures while I sit and watch TV — twenty or so an hour and I’d be done in a couple of weeks. I’d really like to be able to send that to him before much longer.
He’s 87 or 88 now. Been on dialysis. I hope he doesn’t stop — by stopping his dialysis I suppose — but I don’t really think there’s all that much I could do about it. But I would like to see him again.
I need to visit Gramp. I guess maybe I should do that this weekend.
I ended up driving up to Santa Barbara to see him in November. Made it up to Pine Valley on the way, had dinner late, couldn’t sleep because of the wind and all the thoughts in my head.
Late 2001. Fred Powers-Heald (“Gramp”) was Fred’s grandfather, a Santa Barbara dentist turned paleontologist. Fred did make it to see him.
